Need a hobby? Try dance!
As Sydney is driving in her car to pick her children up from school, she notices that their teacher seems really upset at them. Oh great, Sydney thought to herself, what have they done this time. Like a kid with an energy drink, her children had way too much energy and not a lot of discipline. Sydney has tried everything she could think of to get them disciplined, and get their energy out in a fun way but she’s had no luck. Just when she was losing hope she looked over her shoulder and on the fence was an advertisement for a ballet studio. Ballet was perfect for her situation, it’s a fun way to be disciplined, and get in shape. Sydney was surprised this thought never crossed her mind, even though her kids have mentioned wanting to do dance, she just didn’t know what class to start them in. Thinking of the idea now, that ballet would help in all aspects of her kids lives, it doesn’t sound like a bad idea, in fact it’s a great one. If a kid is just starting out dance, and isn’t sure what class they should start with, ballet is the smartest choice. Starting ballet young will benefit a child in many ways; for instance, they will learn how to respect authority and will be disciplined. Just one class of ballet takes a lot of focus, because every second of the class you are thinking. Thinking about the combination, your turn out, your posture, your musicality, and your facial expressions. Yes, that’s a ton to think about, especially for a little kid. Depending on the ballet teacher and the kid, determines what is mostly being thought about. For instance, some teachers stress on facial expressions and knowing the choreography, while another teacher focuses on technique and musicality. When kids start really young they normally just learn the basics, which is enough to keep them focused. Studies also show that kids, who do ballet when they are young, are likely to have longer attention spans. These are all reasons a child should do ballet. |
Ballet helps you with other forms of dance, because almost every form of dance needs technique. Even modern dance looks better if the dancer has good technique. If a kid works hard in ballet and takes the classes to the most of their abilities, there is no doubt that their dancing will improve, greatly. If your child is on the edge about ballet, because they think it’s boring, and they want to do a different style, let them do a class that they want, along with a ballet class. Parents can make compromises like this with their children, to keep them in ballet, if they want, because in the long run ballet will keep them at the top of their class, and in tip-top shape.
As children get older they’ll probably want to experience with different styles of dance, and if they had started with ballet they will be greatly prepared for the new dance style, since ballet is the root of all dance. Ballet will have helped your child out with their technique, and discipline. When kids start ballet young, the classes normally consist of free dancing and learning some basic ballet positions. Some people think that it’s pointless to pay for their kid to learn the basics that young, but it’s definitely not a waste of money. If anything having your kid take ballet classes young is one of the best investments you can make, they will get a good feel for music, and being on stage, and they will also get a lot of self confidence. Surprisingly many kids who start later in life (ages 13-18) lack those qualities. Having children start ballet has many benefits. Sydney, like many other people, experienced this firsthand. Lyndsey, Sydney’s sister, picked up Sydney’s kids from their last ballet class of the month, and noticed that the kids were almost different people entirely. They still had their personality, but they were respectful, and not once kicked their feet against the back of her chair. Lyndsey was dying to know how the kids were now respectful, so she asked. Sydney replied, “Ballet," |
